Rated X embraces all ambiguity in sexual representation, and we welcome a wide spectrum of genres: short and feature film, documentary, experimental, sexploitation, porn, sex education, animation, video-art and more.
Rated X reflects the shifting, moving nature of the erotic in cinema, video and other media. We want to suggest a rich and positive series of alternatives to easy assumptions about sexuality because the erotic always transgresses categories, places and times: there is no single privileged moment in history, single gender, single media, or single “pornography” but a wide variety of individual and collective attempts that try to define the complexity of sexuality while playing with it.
Film submissions are welcome from both professionals and amateurs, from anywhere in the international community. In order to keep the festival accessible to all, and to select from the best possible pool of erotic film submissions, no entry fee is required, and there are no release date or premiere requirements.
Rated X will be highlighting these film categories in the 2008 festival. Or: If your film seems like Alternative Erotica to you, but doesn’t fit these categories, create your own category and we’ll consider it.
-Erotic documentary -- Recent documentaries confronting different subjects and topics within erotic art and cinema and discussing sex and sexuality as a whole.
-Queer program -- Male/male & female/female sexuality from the traditional to the gender-bending.
-Female sexuality -- Artistic, realistic, or just more focused on female pleasure, these films are part of the new wave of female-friendly/feminist sex cinema.
-Fetish Fantasies A collection of refined, subversive and crossing-border compositions from a number of international directors willing to experiment with the objects of their desire, whatever they may be.
-Experimental Erotica - Cutting-edge, bizarre and extreme creations that defy any genre and categorization.
